Michael Penders is the Cybersecurity Program Manager for TÜV SUD Americas. In recent years, Michael has led cybersecurity and risk management practices working with Fortune 100 companies, critical infrastructure facilities, and government agencies.

A former prosecutor, Mr Penders has led international efforts to bring data together to detect environmental crimes and national security threats since the late 1990s when he chaired the G8 Nations’ law enforcement efforts on organized crime. He served as Director of Legal Counsel for the United States Environmental Protection Agency’s (US EPA) Office of Criminal Enforcement.
After 9/11, Mr Penders chaired the international working group which developed standards for integrated security management taken up by ISO, NIST, and incorporated into national regulation and international agreements. He Chaired the American Bar Association’s Homeland Security Committee with the Section of Environment and Natural Resources, and has worked with NATO, US DOD, the United Nations, and EU on national and environmental security matters.

For more than 20 years, Mr Penders has been a Washington DC based Lawyer and Consultant. He has published numerous articles, testified before Congress, lectured at Universities around the world, and spoken at dozens of major conferences.
